Ok, I'm finally on Pinterest. I suppose it's a cool place to post my photography, and, as they say, what interests me. :)

WiseEarth : Art & Land in Texas
February 10-March 3, 2012
Earthwise Gallery
728 N. Elm Street
Denton, TX 76201

Thanks to my supervisor at the Greater Denton Arts Council for sharing the poster for this exhibition. The open call was for Texas artists living and working in Texas for an annual group exhibition. Artists in all disciplines, at any career-stage could apply. That's what made it so perfect, in my eyes, for me to enter. I'm not an aspiring photographer or a grad student looking to gain exposure. I'm just an amateur who loves taking photos when I see something that strikes my fancy! ;)

Ursula Williams - Artist Statement
Photography is the spark to my emotion, the looking glass in the window to my soul. I started taking pictures as a child with the family’s Polaroid. I remember my parents complaining about how much film I used, but they always had more to go around, sufficing my budding hobby with a grin. I would take photos of whatever pleased my eye at the time – dolls, trees, clouds, ant piles, kittens. Whatever it was, I saw a capturing of movement through the lens. Stillness that proved breath. Stillness that signified life. Today, I still worship the movement of stillness. The apple of my eye will almost always undoubtedly be something I - and hopefully the audience - can feel moving, even though the idled object stares stationary. I have no modus operandi other than to detain a moment in an image, and to retain a memory in that moment.

Ursula Williams - Biography
A native of central Texas, I grew up in Eastland. Not many people even know where that little bump on a log is, so I usually direct them to “an hour east of Abilene on I-20.” I remember always being interested in photography as a child. I loved playing with the family’s Polaroid camera. Finally after realizing I wasn’t going to back down on taking photos, my parents bought me my own camera. It took 110 film and even had a flash. The excitement of taking the film to the local Wal-Mart to have it developed was the highlight of my week.

I continued through life with various 35mm cameras, and eventually bought myself my first digital camera in college. Attending Stephen F. Austin State University, I graduated in 2001 with 100s of photos under my belt of the glorious, beautiful deep East Texas terrain. After school was over, I made my way to north Texas to begin my next phase in life – the real world.

Currently, I have been with Texas Woman’s University working as a full time library assistant. I love books about as much as I love photography. TWU has an amazing arts department, and the library receives dozens and dozens of beautiful photography books on a regular basis. I feel privileged that I get first crack at them before they go on the shelves.

I also am currently employed with Greater Denton Arts Council at the Visual Arts Center part time. This position has brought me great joy in the fact that I have maintained a constant connection to the wonderful art community that Denton has. I’ve met some great artists and seen the amazing work that our local public has to offer.

So what’s in store for my future? I keep on working. I keep on producing art. I keep on loving life. I keep on taking advantage of every free minute that leads me to create. I’m considered a lucky individual by friends and family to have the talent they so say I possess and I certainly consider myself blessed to have such a wonderful life doing what I love.
